As the Bihar state assembly elections approach, the government is reportedly preparing a major relief measure for farmers. A new plan aims to provide interest-free loans under the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme, a move intended to boost agricultural activities in the state.
The Finance Department has reportedly approved the proposal, with an official announcement expected soon. Earlier in February, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar hinted at upcoming welfare schemes for farmers, highlighting the central government’s efforts, including the Makhana Board initiative.
Cooperative Minister Prem Kumar, along with Department Secretary Dharmendra Singh and Joint Registrar Kameshwar Thakur, confirmed on Friday that both CM Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary have endorsed the initiative, with a formal declaration expected soon.
Meanwhile, CM Nitish Kumar defended his administration’s track record, stating that Bihar was plagued by crime before he took office. He emphasized his government’s commitment to justice and took a swipe at political rivals, accusing them of failing to manage Hindu-Muslim tensions while in power.
He also criticized former CM Rabri Devi, asserting that she holds no real authority in her party, where key decisions are made by ex-CM Lalu Yadav. “You stay out of this. You know nothing about these matters,” Kumar remarked, referring to her appointment as CM during her husband’s legal troubles.
