In a significant action against corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two individuals – an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and a railway technician (Electrical) from Lalkuan Railway Station in Haldwani. Both were caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 from a complainant.
Why Were They Arrested?
The CBI took action after registering a case against the ASI from the RPF post at Kathgodam Railway Station and another railway official from Lalkuan. According to the complaint, the accused demanded a bribe of ₹2,00,000. They threatened the complainant with arrest and the impounding of his dumper (a type of truck) after filing an FIR under the Railway Act. The FIR was based on allegations that the complainant’s dumper had damaged a railway gate at Sheeshmahal Fatak.
After some negotiations, the accused reduced their demand to ₹25,000. Eventually, they agreed to accept ₹20,000.
The CBI set a trap to catch the accused red-handed. As soon as the ASI and the technician accepted ₹20,000 from the complainant, they were immediately caught. Following the arrest, both individuals were taken into custody and are scheduled to appear before the court on March 24, 2025.
The CBI is also conducting searches at the homes and premises of the accused as part of their ongoing investigation to gather more evidence related to the bribery case.
