CBI Catches Garrison Engineer in Ranchi for Accepting Rs.40,500 Bribe

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a Garrison Engineer (GE) in Ranchi for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹40,500 from a contractor.

Bribery Allegations and Case Details

The CBI registered a case against the accused on March 19, 2025, following a complaint that he had demanded a bribe of ₹54,000. The complainant, a civil contractor, had completed construction work and submitted bills worth approximately ₹27 lakh for clearance. However, the accused allegedly withheld the payment, demanding 2% of the total bill amount as a bribe before processing it.

After negotiations, the accused agreed to lower the bribe amount to ₹40,500, which was around 1.5% of the pending bill.

CBI Trap and Arrest

Acting on the complaint, the CBI set up a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe of ₹40,500. The arrest took place during the exchange, confirming the allegations against the officer.

Ongoing Investigation

Following the arrest, CBI teams conducted searches at the accused’s residential and official premises to gather further evidence. The investigation is still underway to uncover any additional irregularities or involvement of other officials.
