Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has directed all departments to implement a structured response system to combat misinformation related to state policies and governance. This directive, issued by the General Administrative Department (GAD), follows a recent government resolution aimed at ensuring the timely clarification of misleading reports.

As part of this initiative, a dedicated mechanism has been established to identify and counter false information about government schemes. Departments are now required to issue clarifications within 12 hours of any misleading news surfacing. The media response cell of the Directorate General of Information and Public Relations (DGIPR) will actively monitor reports and alert departments to ensure swift responses.

This move builds upon an earlier decision to set up a media monitoring center with a ₹10 crore budget, designed to track and analyze news coverage related to the government across various platforms. The center’s primary goal is to address negative or misleading narratives and safeguard the state’s image.

The GAD acknowledged that delayed responses to misinformation have often impacted public perception. It emphasized the need for proactive communication from government departments to dispel unverified claims made by the media regarding state administration.
