The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Superintendent of GST from Medak, Hyderabad, Telangana, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹8,000 from a complainant. The arrest took place during a trap set by the CBI as part of its anti-corruption drive.

According to reports, the case began on March 21, 2025, when the CBI registered a complaint against the GST official. The complaint alleged that the accused had demanded a bribe of ₹10,000 from the complainant in exchange for revoking the suspension of the complainant’s GSTIN (Goods and Services Tax Identification Number). The GSTIN, which belonged to the complainant’s proprietorship firm, had been suspended due to the non-filing of tax returns.

To verify the allegations, the CBI laid a trap on March 21, 2025. During the operation, the Superintendent of GST was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹8,000 from the complainant. This incident took place at the office of the GST Superintendent, Medchal Commissionerate, Medak, Telangana. After being caught in the act, the accused was immediately arrested by the CBI.

Following the arrest, the CBI conducted searches at the accused’s residential and official premises in Medak and Hyderabad, as well as at his native place in Jehanabad, Bihar. During these searches, the CBI recovered several incriminating documents that are expected to aid the investigation.

The arrested GST Superintendent was produced before the Competent Court on March 22, 2025. He has been remanded to judicial custody as the investigation continues.
