The Telangana government has issued Memo Number 677/Poll.B/26 allowing all Muslim government employees in the state to leave office at 4:00 PM during the holy month of Ramzan.
The order applies to:
- Regular government employees
- Teachers
- Contract workers
- Outsourcing staff
- Employees working in state boards and corporations
- Staff in public sector undertakings
By reducing office hours, the government aims to help Muslim employees observe their religious duties without difficulty.
Support During the Holy Month of Ramzan
Ramzan is a sacred month for Muslims around the world. During this period, they fast from dawn to sunset. Fasting means not eating or drinking during the day. It is a time of prayer, reflection, discipline, and spiritual growth. This year, Ramzan begins on February 18, 2026, and will last around 29 to 30 days. Since fasting can be physically demanding, especially in the Indian climate, the early closing time will help employees manage their daily routine better.
The Government says that with the new timing, Muslim employees can reach home in time for iftar, spend time with family, offer evening prayers, rest and prepare for the next day’s fast
The government believes that this step will reduce physical strain and help employees maintain both productivity and spiritual commitment.
Not a New Step
This is not the first time Telangana has introduced such a policy. Similar relaxations have been provided in previous years during Ramzan.
